"In this series I'm going to talk to you about another way to sharpen your tools. In fact, this is the way to put a clean, fresh edge on a tool that doesn't necessarily need to go back to the grinder. And for that I might use a diamond edge file. And they come in different grits, fine, extra fine and medium grit. And on the surface of this are industrial grade diamonds. The other thing I might use would be a slip stone. This is a synthetic India stone and I'd use water for the lubrication. And I simply use this to put a fresh edge on my tool without having to go back to the grinder. Sometimes these stones will get a little gritty or dirty, and the way to clean them is to use some wet, dry sandpaper. And place it on a surface, a flat surface. If you've got some granite that's very solid and very smooth, that will work. And you just rub it up and down on the wet, dry sandpaper. Six hundred grit, eight hundred grit or a thousand grit. And it'll remove the material that's gotten on the stone from the honing."
