"In this clip I'm going to talk to you about commercially prepared blanks that you would buy from a woodworking store. Let's suppose you don't live in a rural area or you don't have an area where you get access to logs or half logs or branches, that shouldn't stop you from turning a bowl blank because there are plenty of blanks that are available at woodworking stores. This is an example of a burrell and this is a big leaf maple burrell and you can see that it has some really spectacular grain in it. Here is a prepared blank of myrtle and these are a nice sized blank for turning a bowl. Now when you buy these blanks very often they will be sealed in a wax coating and the manufacturer does that to make sure that the wood stays moist or green until you are ready to use it so in that case you should always treat wood that you buy that has been sealed in wax as green wood. Another way to get them is to go on line. Some of the auction sites are a great way to get some commercially prepared blanks."
