"Suhkasana the easy pose. Suhka literally means easy or another way to think about easefulness is really a sense of freedom like when things feel easeful there is a sense of spacious freedom so that is really what we are after in the yoga practice, in our life, but that freedom first comes from a stability so we start I think by sitting up on a blanket for most of us we want to make sure that we have a curve in our lower back. So if you sit up on a blanket or if you are sitting on the floor, check out and you want to make sure that the top of your sacrum and your lumbar vertebra which are these vertebra in your lower back, instead of rounding out you want them to curve in and even lift up a little bit so that your spine is nice and long so the blanket will help with that. I am sitting up on a blanket and you might even need two blankets depending on how tight your hips are and your hamstrings, sitting up on a blanket, cross your shins so that your feet line up with your knees then pay close attention to your feet and rather than just collapsing the legs activate the feet, spread the toes and push through all four corners of your feet, especially through the inner edges of your feet so it is like you're on the outer blades of the feet, that is the part of the feet that is touching the Earth and you will notice that from that alignment in your feet you will be able to create stability in the legs and hug the mid line so you hug in firm and evenly on all sides of the legs and the pelvis is going to get like more connected and engaged and then from that connection scoop the tail bone down and lift and lengthen up through your spine. This is easy pose and it can be a great hip opener if your hips are more tight or it is just a good time to practice hugging in and creating stability in your legs."
