"The letter g. The letter g is going down into the descenders space. So I've marked it for you. I have the ascenders space, the x height and the descenders space. We're going to start the g just as we start the c or the a, so there's the g. We're going to go down into the descenders space and make the beginning of a hook then I'm going to finish it. So we think of the g as being three strokes, one; two and three. Some things to think about with the g, preserving that white triangle that happens at the baseline where the letter sits. So we preserve that white triangle that we keep the oval character of the letter and that we don't extend this hook at the bottom too far. So we want to keep everything in proportion. G goes down and stops and that we make that little hook. Sometimes I think it's helpful to think of constructing the g in a parallelogram so we really don't extend the swoop at the bottom much further than the width of the letter. Then when we take the slant into consideration it is going to go a little passed. Now when you make flourish italic, you can do lots of crazy things with the hook on the g, but for now let's keep it simple. So three strokes, one; two and three. There g."
