"Let's make these flowers real. Just as we had a whole bunch of different greens for the flowers, we can look at those flowers and go 'oh they're red or they're pink'. But, really, they're red edges and lighter centers fading from red through pinks and even in some cases into greens. So, let's just look at what we've got and establish those reds. Along the outside is the darkest red, so let's paint those dark reds and have them start to fade toward the inside. Just as we did with almost everything else today, as we refine the edges they start to take on the illusion of reality. Then, as we add highlights and shadows they become more real."
