"Okay. We're going to continue our sketching. And I'm just going to try and refine that further pot over there. Now we know that the top of that pot is round. But because it's in perspective and it's at an angle what I'm seeing is really an oval. That's one of the most important things whenever you're working from a real still life. Is trust your eyes. Don't trust what you know. When a child is told to draw a chair they will always draw a chair with four legs. But depending upon where you're sitting you may not be able to see the fourth leg. It may be hidden behind the seat of the chair. Or behind a leg. But a child will always draw it with 4 legs. Learn to trust your eyes. Look at what you're seeing and draw what you see not what you know is the reality. I know that the reality of that pot is a circle. But from this perspective. From where I'm sitting that's not a circle, it's an oval."
