Video: Making a Clay Fluted Edge

The way that I make the fluted edge on this pie plate is by taking my left hand and just forming a shape like that. Then I'll take that and hold it underneath this side. I'll take my right finger and pull through that little area. I'm supporting here and then pushing down and pulling through with my right finger. Then I'll move over, always taking my index finger and putting it at the curve, the peak of that curve, and then pulling through. Continue to do this all the way around. They don't have to be perfect but it is nice if they're fairly even. If your finger starts to pull on the clay, just put a little bit of water on there so that it will run smoothly over that area. Once you've got them all the way around, just go back with your sponge and your finger and just make sure that that wall is nice and round still because you might have kind of pulled it out of shape. Once you've done that, take your hard rib, push it against the bat and move it towards the base of the piece to make a nice undercut. Then set that aside to dry before you trim it.
