Video: Clay Toothbrush Holder: Create Bottom Flange

So the first thing I'm going to do, is I'm going to take my right thumb, right up against the wheel head, and slide it towards, oops, piece of clay came off, so I'm going to go ahead and just pull that right out of there. I'll be able to fix this, re-center it, and I'll show you how to do that. All you have to do is the same thing as you did when you're pulling. Pinch together and compress from the outside with the right hand and its right back on center. So now I'll go back to my right thumb, push that under. And what I want to do here, is come out a little bit, but come out rather high. If it's too low, the toothbrush is likely to slide from side to side in the bottom, or even if it's really low, it can slip right out the bottom. So this, the taller this is, the more likely your toothbrush is going to stay in place where you want it. So now I'm going to take my rib and I'm going to press it against the bat, slide towards my piece to get a nice undercut. And once I've got that undercut, I'm going to just widen this area just a little bit more and make sure that the base of the toothbrush is going to be able to fit in there. And then I'm just going to take my sponge and clean that up. So now you can either just let this dry naturally or you can take a torch to it. And I'm going to show you how to do that and we'll just dry it enough to cut the holes.
