Oil Painting: Creating Shadows

OK, we're coming back to the face. We can see that it doesn't have a whole lot of shape right now. Her face is a little bit flat because it doesn't have any strong lighted areas, or strong dark areas. So, we're going to have to adjust that in order to get more depth out of the face. And to gray down the color without killing the color. You need to add some blue to it. And you're going to use Ultramarine or Cobalt blue. That's the best route. You don't want to use very much of it. So we're going to start blocking in the area so to speak where that there's the shadows. So, I'm mixing in a little bit of blue. And working the blue into it. And see how it forms sort of a violet gray? That's sort of what we're looking for in a way. And I'm just sort of putting these colors in and not getting real tight quite yet. OK. We're starting to see a little bit of shape.
