OK, the reason I'm using oil instead of acrylic for this is because oil takes longer to dry so you have a chance to blend it. Plus oil dries the same color as it's wet. Whereas acrylic dries a different color. So what happens is, is if you don't get it perfect the first time, when you go back to blend and work on the skin of the face, then you will put down a color that you thinks going to dry correctly, and it will dry wrong and you'll be able to see the edge. So doing an acrylic face has to be done all at one shot with no mistakes. Which is awfully challenging to do. Oil paint normally takes forty eight hours to six months to dry depending on how thick it is. Depending on how much solvent you have in there to make it thin. The more solvent, the faster it dries. Whereas, acrylic paint takes fifteen minutes to an hour to dry normally. And acrylic paint is great for a lot of other things, but not for portraits. Another thing is that you can get water soluble oil that don't have to use mineral spirits or turpentine for the solvent. So they're water soluble and they're in my opinion even better because they don't have the smell of the solvent and you don't have to buy solvents. You can just use water to clean up and to thin your paint. And they last just as long. The colors are just as bright. It's just a different type of oil paint that you buy. And the water soluble will mix with regular oils but then you'll have to use a solvent if you do that.
