"Now let's talk briefly about strategies for grading the course. And what I have found essential in all of the courses that I teach is that I develop a simple grading system. And I make it clear to the students, early on, what that grading system is. You know, fifty percent of your grade is participation, thirty percent of your grade is participation, ten percent is absences, twenty percent is quizzes. Whatever it is, keep it very, very simple, as absolutely simple as possible. And let the students know what the system is so that they won't have any questions or any confusion throughout the semester, throughout the course as to what something is worth. What is this worth, what is this activity worth? Keep it simple."
