"Another option for getting the students to read the text book is to tailor the text. And what I mean by that is instead of assigning read chapter one, read chapter six, from beginning to end. That's what students hate the most. Where are the certain articles, the certain pages, the certain things in the text that you want your students to read? The way text books are written now it’s absolutely wonderful. There's interactive activities. There are asides that give information about the subject matter. Maybe you don't have to give them all of chapter one. Maybe you give them pages one through seven as well as the quiz page or the journal entry page, or the aside page on page eleven. And that's all they have to read. What you want to focus on is getting them to read the material in the book that is the most important and that you are not going to really cover in your lectures in class."
