Video Transcript

"Danhauser was specialized especially in, not only in portrait painting but also in genre scenes and historical genre scenes. This picture is especially this one. And his other painters were active at that time in Vienna, that was the style they were following, this richness in details and the not so sharp outlines which is different from the now classical style. What we can see that the ground of the painting were rather dark colored and they used after the, after painting the whole scene and the whole painting. In Biedermeier, they use a special varnish on the surface of the painting to make it more soft and more gentle. So that's why the old and original Biedermeier painting has a kind of a very worn out surface with little, little rough in it."
