"Now we're ready to throw the rim into this plate. You have to have a little bit of extra clay to support a flat rim, so we've left a pretty good chunk here. I'm going to take my right thumb, and push underneath to get a nice big undercut, so that I've got a really big rim that I can pinch with my fingers. The shape of this is going to be very thick pointed. I want to have a lot underneath to support this flat rim. What I'm going to do is pinch with my left hand, and then I'm going to pull, with my right index finger over my thumb. My thumb is underneath; supporting this. This needs to be left a little thicker. You can trim this out later, because otherwise; your rim is going to fall right over, and you don't want that. I'm going to take my rib, and I'm going to do another pull. If you want to have a really nice ledge here, you can smooth with your finger to make a point, and then take your rib again, and press that down carefully so that you don't push it over, and then clean that lip. And now we have a plate with a rim."
