"So now that we've removed the spots of glaze from the kiln shelves we're ready to rewash them. We've got our kiln wash already prepared. You're going to want to take a big brush. Get it pretty goopy on there and go over the places where you ground off any kiln wash. This has pretty thin kiln wash on it as it is so I'm just going to add a little bit more to the entire shelf. Now you want to let this kiln wash dry completely. Just like anything else that goes in your kiln you want the water to be gone before it reaches that boiling point of water. Now on this shelf you can see some pieces have just come off. This has just happened through the regular use of this shelf. I didn't grind that off. So when your shelf starts to lose a little bit of kiln wash you also want to fill it in. It's not very often necessary to completely scrape off the kiln wash and redo the entire shelf but the occasion where you would want to do that is if you fired your shelf a whole bunch of times and it started to sag in the middle. At that point you're going to want to grind all the kiln wash off of that side, flip the shelf over, wash the other side and use it the other way for a little while so that it'll sag back to flat."
