Series Summary

Crochet, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops of yarn in order to create fabric. The difference between crocheting and knitting however, is that in crochet only one loop is active at a time, and a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles. Crocheting became popular in Europe in the early 1800's and has gone through several periods of popularity in the recent past, with a revival of handcrafts and do it yourself projects. There are a variety of crochet stitches and when combined with brightly colored or white yarn, a crochet fan can create a wide range of beautiful fabrics to decorate their home or give away as a unique gift. A unique crocheted garment that makes great gifts are leg warmers. In this free instructional crocheting video series, an experienced artisan will show you how to get started, how to measure, take in, and finish the garment. Learn the proper stitches to use and how to change yarn color to produce customized hand-made leg warmers.

Video Transcript

"So now I want to switch colors so I want to continue with the double stitch until I reach the point where I am parallel to the beginning. I am going to continue one more stitch to make myself parallel and then pull this out, pull the loop out so you have ample room to work with. I cut off the string about four inches away from the beginning and tie on the new color. Make sure to tie it on really tight and leave about two inches away from the knot. This way you can weave in the ends and it will secure the knot so it won't unravel. I am going to continue with the double stitch and incorporate the new color just like that."
