Summary: The double crochet stitch creates more fabric faster. See how to crochet a double stitch with tips from an artisan in this free crochet video.
"So now as we have done before, we have the initial chain and this is the double stitch. So, like the single stitch, every time you go to a new row, you must add a loop. Then, this is where it changes from the single stitch to the double stitch. With the double stitch, you wrap the yard immediately and dive in to the chain. Now you have 3 loops on your hook. Pull through the first loop. Then wrap you yard, pull through the second two loops. Then wrap your yarn again and pull through the last two loops. Alright, let?s see that again. The double stitch. Wrap the yarn around the hook, dive in to the chain, pull through the yarn. Then wrap, pull through two, wrap and pull through three. The last two. That is the double stitch."

A 'double stitch' is made as follows:
row1: Sc in 1st st, *insert hook in the same st, pull up a loop, insert hook in the next st, pull up a loop, YO, pull thru all 3 loops*; repeat from * to * across.
Repeat row 1 for pattern
