"Babies like the sound of our voice, they like movement, and they like feeling movement. So, something to think about is to try humming. So you can hum just like this, with your baby sitting here listening to it, but it can be much more effective if you hum with your baby close, right up here so they can feel it. So let me show you. So bring your baby up, nice and slow, making sure that they are safe and comfortable, they can't slip or fall. So bring baby up nice and close, supporting baby, making sure they feel comfortable and safe, they're nice and close to you. They're connected--they feel the warmth, they feel your love, they're next to your heart. But bring them nice and close so that if you hum they can feel the movement in your vocal cords, in your throat, and all the muscles that help you to hum. They can hear it, and they can feel it. That vibration can be very soothing to a baby that's crying. So hold them nice and close to your heart, being careful that you're not pressing their face too tight so if they turn their head a little bit let's make sure that they can breathe the whole time. But pull them up nice and tight and close to you, and hum. Just hum. They can feel it and they know that your intention is to love them, to calm them, and soothe them."
