"One thing that can be really helpful if your baby is crying is simply just to take a few moments, paying attention to your baby and talking to them. Your baby recognizes your voice, baby's start to recognize their caregivers voices, their mother, their father, their parents, their voices right away, within few hours of their birth they can recognize their parents voices as opposed to that of a stranger. So, it is really important to take time out and just talk to your baby in a loving, calm voice, you can say anything you want. I do not think baby's care, they just want to hear us talking to them calmly and making them feel secure. So, take time, make eye contact and talk to your baby. You might talk to them, you might tell them a story, you can tell them your shopping list, they really do not care. You also can think about singing, singing is a great way for you to take time to connect with your baby. Your baby does not care if you sing out of tune so sing to them, hum to them and really talk to them. Research has shown us that baby's love to be spoken to, have that verbal connection, that interaction between their caregivers and themselves. So take your time and talk to them. Many time people think that baby's only like the sound of female voices, there is a lot of research indicating that higher pitched or higher toned voices are very pleasing to baby's, that they are recognizable, but they will be just as happy if dad or grandpa is talking to them."
