Watercolor is a type of painting that uses colored pigments dissolved in water. The distinguishing characteristic of watercolor painting is its transparency. The surface of the paper is visible through the thin watercolor pigments, creating an effect different from thicker textures as found in oil painting. Although this is a relatively modern technique, various related types of water-based paints have been used throughout recorded history. The painted papyrus scrolls of ancient Egypt may be considered the first watercolors, and the ink techniques of early Asian art are early forms of monochrome, or single-color, watercolor. Learn how to paint snowscape water color paintings in this free video series featuring artist and painting instructor Cody Davis. "70.Ok, now we're going to do a snowscape with evergreen trees. Ok, what we're going to need is watercolor paper, a tracing transfer sheet. Hopefully one that's got an erasable transfer, so if you make a mistake, you can erase it. You're going to need paper towels. One for your left hand, to remove paint. And one for the right, it's going to lay on the table and allow you to clean your brush on to it. You'll need a clear water container that will hold only clear water. And you will need brushes. You will need from a 6 to a12 round brush. This is a 10 right here, something that makes a good point. And then a number 1 rigger or a lizard lick. This is a number 8 lizard lick."
