"Hello this is Dr. Felicia, and I'm here to speak to you about how to maintain your child's personal belonging after a divorce. Very often after a divorce there is visitation times between each parent or family members and the child is often grabbing their homework or their school papers or even their medical needs from house to house to house. Now, it's very important that communication be maintain both supervising parents, but as we know, the reason you got divorce is you didn't get along in the first place. So chances are there might be some hostility. In order to overcome some of that hostility for the child's sake, it's very very important that you communicate about what medication needs the child has, what personal belongings are, and what perhaps homework assignments are due for that week. So the personal belongings that a child needs to transport between house to house is always their school backpack, their homework, their school book and certainly any medication that they're taking at that time cause it needs to follow consistently under doctor's orders. So to maintain these personal belongings, it may help to email each other and advice each other. For instance, if you're the one who took the child to the pediatrician and got the directions for the medicines, be sure to communicate that to the other parent. As far as the backpack and homework, make sure your child has everything on them before they leave your home for that visitation. It helps the child to be reassured and prepared and by all means any special item that the child has, like a special stuffed animal, etc., be sure that it goes home with the child. And makes sure he rounds up everything before he leaves. With that in mind, I wish you a smooth sailing and smooth transition between visits. Thank you and God bless!"
