Hi, my name's Dan Schmidt, from the Chinese Martial Arts Center. And today we're going to be showing you how to perform a circular block against a high punch. OK. So the circular block against the high punch looks like this. So somebody punches in. OK, you want to use the side of your forearm, this way and you want to twist outward. OK. Just like this. This creates an opening. OK, so he comes in with a punch. OK, you block outside this way. Twist with your hips. OK, so if you practice this alone. You could start here, twist forward, bring the arm down and then around as you twist back. OK? So, forward down, back. Then with the other arm, down and back. OK, contrary to how it looks, the block comes from the waist. So if he punches, OK, it's not really just your arm. OK, this works but you don't get a lot of momentum. So, if he punches, OK, you want to twist. This forces his arm to go across his body. Or to the outside. Then I have all this. So I can start an attack here, or start an attack here. Or if he punches with the other hand, same thing. This opens him up to the front. Then I could punch this way and move in. Or whatever you would like to do. So again, so he punches. OK? So you want to block and twist. That's the proper way to perform a circular block against a high punch.
