Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt, from the Chinese Martial Arts Center, and today we're going to be showing you how to properly block a side kick. So a side kick is a very powerful kick. Usually it's targeted towards the rib area, and it's very hard to get out of the way of, so when they come in with the kick. You want to grab the leg, only for a second, and you want to scoop it out of the way. Press it off to the side. From here, so he kicks. I could do anything I want to do, so kick. Scoop out of the way. See, I can kick his back leg. Punch the head, or I can perform like a grab, a sweep. Or what I could do with the same block, so he kicks, I can block, and I can move in and side kick him. So it's very important. Keep the fingers together, and you want to hook the back of the leg, mainly aiming towards the lower part of the calf, so he kicks again. You can move back. See, keep your head forward. Press it out of the way, and then move straight in from there. That's the proper way to block a side kick.
