Video Transcript

"Hello. My name is Anthony Baron Kirk. And, in this series we're going to cover adaptive exercise with an emphasis on Pilates. I'd like to first state in the interest of the history of Pilates, which is Joseph Pilates himself came up with the method Pilates actually referred to as controlology. He was training to become a nurse. Joseph Pilates was able to construct machines with anything and everything that was available at the hospitals. So, if you can picture a patient on a table with their arms and legs up in slings he was able to adapt springs and such things to help them rehabilitate themselves as they were recovering from whatever injury or disease that they of course had fallen victim to. So, using this as a context for what I've been able to do in my own personal interests is going into Pilates as a great method and discovering a methodology that will work for people that are disabled."
