"What we are going to discuss and demonstrate is the proper method of tying a clove hitch around a fixed substantial object. We take the end of the rope or the running part of the rope and we lay it over top of our substantial object. Pass the rope underneath and around and cross over and hold it in place. Pass the rope around one more time and where X marks the spot is where we want to take the rope through that hole the second time, forming the clove hitch tied around a substantial object. Clove hitch is nothing more then two half hitches put together. The clove hitch is a very effective knot to be used around any object that is round in nature for securing the end of a rope or helping to secure the end of a rope. Very efficient and effective knot that all firefighters need to know and understand and be proficient. The clove hitch."
