What we're going to discuss and demonstrate is the proper technique for tying the Munter Hitch. The Munter Hitch is formed by forming a round turn and then bringing it back on a bite and pinching between the thumb and forefinger. We then apply our D ring or carabiner through that area and then pull the knot tight or the hitch tight until we form that type of Munter Hitch. And the purpose of the Munter Hitch is so that carabiner or D ring can slide along that rope and attach things to the carabiner like another firefighter that we need to lower to the ground, a victim or apply any load to the Munter Hitch so it slides along where we would like it to be.
