Summary: Boba is an enlarged tapioca pearl that is served in tea drinks. Learn about boba with tips from a tea lounge owner in this free tea brewing video.
"So what is Boba Tea? We hear boba. Well, boba is an enlarged tapioca pearl, and it's made of casaba root sometime, and sometime it's tapioca starch. It's blended with caramel and sugar, and you cook it, and it brings out a texture, so when you drink it, it tastes like chewing on Gummi Bears, and Boba Tea, refers to a tea, with boba in it. Now, when you go to Boba Tea places, like Lollicup or Tapioca Express, what you get usually, is a green tea base, or a black tea base. Meaning, it's black tea that's already pre- brewed, and then what they do to add flavor, if you want a mango, or strawberry flavor, they add an artificial flavoring, like this is a mango flavor, into that cup of tea, and then, they put in the boba, and they call it a Mango Boba Tea. But the best way to make it, is to use fresh, loose leaf tea, that has natural ingredients. This is a White Island. It has pineapple and coconut, and you can see it in the tea leaves, so you brew it, and you get a cup of iced tea, and all you have to do, is get your boba. You put your iced tea in the boba, and you've got yourself a cup of boba tea. If you want milk to it, you can just add milk, and sweeten it as you like, and that is Boba Milk Tea. The boba itself, doesn't have a lot of nutritious value on its own, but it's a lot of fun. That's why it's caught on, for the younger generation."

on 10/30/2008 I love Boba Tea. Great Video! I grew up in Taiwan and now live in the states and it's hard for me to live without Boba so I just make it at home. I get my supplies at www.bobateadirect.com. They have great service and great products!
