Summary: Certain teas can last as long at 10 years. Learn more about tea shelf life and storage with tips from a tea lounge owner in this free video.
"So what is the shelf life of tea? Quickly, green tea lasts about six months to a year. White tea, again, less than a year. Oolong tea can go for a year to two years and black tea can go for a year, ten years, it depends on the style of black tea. But all of this with one condition, that you're storing it correctly. Light- tight, air-tight container, away from odor and moisture, your tea will go a long way. Now, if you have green tea from Japan, make sure you keep it, no tea should be refrigerated, but there's one style of tea. It's not like coffee. But, the style of Japanese green tea can be refrigerated and that prolong the life of the tea leaves. So with only one exception, when Japanese green tea is stored in a refrigerator, you can keep it for about a year to two years. But please, don't buy so much that you have to store tea for that long. We always recommend buying small quantity and buying often. Why is that? Because you want to try the new flavors of the new seasons. Why do you want to drink a tea that was two years ago? You want to try new teas and explore what the earth just came out with."
