Summary: Avoid spreading gym germs on stationary bikes by spraying down the machine with an ethanol liquid and wiping. Stay healthy on gym stationary bikes with the tips from this free video on gym hygiene.
"Hi. Welcome back I'm Megan Moe and today I'm talking to you about some cardio equipment in the gym and what you can do to best protect yourself from germs when you choose to use it. So here we have the gym bicycle which is also very popular. And this is something else where you want to be sure to keep the handles clean. When you first walk up to it you want to be sure to clean these with either ethanol solution that's left to sit for one minute. At least one minute. Or antibacterial wipes are also very good for using on this. And since it is the bike and there is a seat that presents kind of a different issue. You want to be really sure when you're using this that the seat is clean. Since sweat that does come from peoples groins or their underarms is more rich in protein, which is what the bacteria feed off of on your sweat, so sweat that comes from those areas is a lot more prone to bacterial growth so you might want to be extra careful when you're using this. Now I would probably recommend you want to disinfect this when you first use it. And also you might want to consider just throwing a towel on here before you sit down. Or if you're not comfortable with that just make sure if you want to use the bike that you do wear long pants to the gym and not shorts. That way there's just another barrier between your skin and the seat and from the bacteria. Which is a good thing. And also you want to keep in mind. If you happen to have an open sore or a cut somewhere on you, you really need to be very careful, you want to be sure that it's bandaged properly before you come to a gym and do anything. Cardio, weights or anything. You want to be sure that's properly taken care of so that it doesn't get infected and can heal properly. Now next I'm going to show you a little bit about weight machines and how you should keep those clean before you use them and how to protect yourself from the germs there."
