Summary: Wrist locks can severely damage the joints of an attacker or give you control over them. Learn how to do a wrist lock from a two handed push or Ryotedori in this free Aikido training video featuring a 4th degree black belt.
"Alright, this next technique, I'm stepping outside the bounds of aikido. I don't really think there are too many bounds of aikido. I call this one a wrist tuite, and I got this from my kyusho-jitso instructor, Master Jim Corn. Jim Corn is an 8th degree black belt in ruku kempo, who also is a senior member of Kyusho International. He's an instructor that teaches all around all the world, and I got this technique from him, and it's a great one. As they come to push, I'm simply going to grab this hand. I know it's coming. All I have to do is put my hand up, just like this. Once I do this, one, I come across his hand, his arm with my hand, I grab just like this, drop my elbows down and turn to the outside. The difference between tuite and aikido wrist locks, are tuite is designed to destroy the joint. I'm not going to take it that far because it's still a good control without destroying the joint, but you can see, once you get it to this point, if you take it over like this, you could damage the wrist very bad. But there's no need to do that, because look at the control I have without doing anything else. So from here, it's just one, two, now I can do whatever else I want, three, throw him over this way. But the most important thing is just to put your hands up just like this, okay? You can do same side, one, two, or you can do opposite, one, two. If you do opposite like this, make sure that you turn to the outside. What you're doing is putting the wrist in this vulnerable position. So from across hand, it's here. Same side, it's here."
