"All right, now before we actually get out there and get assertive we're going to have a few things that we're going to do, a few tips. We're going to rehearse. We're going to practice being assertive on safe people. And remember that when you are trying to become an assertive communicator, you're going to take baby steps. You're not going to become assertive overnight. So if you feel like you're trying to become assertive and you fail the first time or the second time or the third time, don't worry about it. Because if you have been non-assertive or if you have been aggressive as a communicator your whole life, you can't expect to change it overnight. So allow yourself time to improve and rehearsal and practice is the best way in order to improve your skills at being assertive. Because with rehearsal and practice what you can do is you can pick who and where you want to start with. You don't have to become assertive with everyone overnight. Start with one person. Start with one situation. Right now figure out who is the safest person that you can rehearse on. That may be a person that you might have a little trouble with, but they would be a safe practice person. Think about that person right now, then I'm going to tell you how to rehearse from here on."
