"These are emotional signs of active first stage labor. Things have changed a lot from early first stage labor here. The women is now very serious, she is giving her contractions her full attention. She's fully committed, and she knows that this is it, there's no question of if you're in labor now, you know you're in labor. She might be tired, especially considering how long her early first stage labor was, and if she was able to get rest or not. This is when women start to get discouraged, they're starting to feel like this has been going on for a long time. They want to know why it's taking so long and they're just, they're done with it sometimes and they definitely are losing confidence at this point, they feel like, why can't my body do this faster, am I doing this correctly, they start to doubt themselves. So this is when it's really important to have a good birthing partner, somebody who's going to keep the women's spirits high, keep them focused on the positive and encourage them, that they can do this and that they are doing this. So these are emotional signs of active first stage labor."
