"Once you've picked the right venue you want to make sure that you do some research on that venue to be able to fit into it. If, let's say for example, that I pick a club. And I say, I'm going to go play, I want to play in Seattle, at a club in Seattle. Well, there's an easy way to find out about all the clubs in Seattle. Just go to any web search engine and then you type in music, live music Seattle, and all of a sudden all these different websites will pop up. Then you can go and you can find the ones, there will be websites that pop up that list all these different musical clubs and most of them will have their own website. Go and look on that website and find out what kind of acts they have playing there. Find out what nights they have playing there. When you figure that out, you can coordinate that in with your schedule and planning your schedule so that you know when you pitch something to them, exactly which night to tell them that you want to play on, or if you'll fit at all into that. You'll find out if you're choosing something like a church, you might find out, 'Hey, if I'm going to perform for a youth group, well I need to find out exactly which nights they have their youth group on. If I'm going for a university, what nights do they have their student activities nights on?' There's all sorts of things that you can find out by doing some research first before you just go start, haul off, and start calling people, because it'll save you a lot of time in finding out, if you say 'Hey, well I'd like to come play on Tuesday night,' 'Well, we only have things on Friday nights.' 'Oh, well, thanks for your time, see you later.' Do some research. It'll save yourself the awkward pause."
