"Hi, this is Robert Stewart with hill13.com. The next thing we're going to talk about is a little safety before you get down to actually doing maintenance on your paintball gun. Just as important as it is on the field to remain safe in play with the paintball gun, and using the proper safety rules we've talked about before; in terms of goggles and barrel plugs, it's just as important if you're standing in your garage, about to work on your paintball gun. What you want to make sure you do, is first establish that the weapon is unloaded by taking off the hopper, making sure if there is anything, it's only the one that's trapped in front of the bolt. The next thing you want to do is remove the propellant. You want to take the air away from the system, so that even if it fires once, it can't fire again. Now, let's assume for a second that behind this barrel plug there's a paintball. What we want to do, in order to not have the paintball go anywhere we don't want it to, we take the barrel plug out. In a safe manner, we aim the weapon away from ourselves, and away from all others, and pull back on the bolt gently, and pull the trigger, and let the bolt fall forward. Now, don't fire it, because it's still charged, it's still going to fire. So that way, if you drop the bolt slowly, the paint ball should just roll right out of the front of the barrel. This weapon has no air, and this weapon has no ammunition. This weapon is now ready for some maintenance."
