"We just discussed how to play a single string using a pick. Now once again this would be a traditionally, traditionally a felt pick rather than a plastic guitar pick, but, same idea, same concept, same shape. Now, when you're strumming all of the strings of the ukulele, rather than one string, you basically just want to expand upon the ideas that we used when striking a single string. So essentially, when you're picking through the strings here, I'll just play the open strings... you want to play straight through the strings. Or, down and up, alternate picking. So that all of your strokes end up striking the strings. Now, the idea again is that you want to strike directly through in a straight horizontal line down the strings, because if you strike at an angle, by the time you get up to that high string, you've compromised the sound because you end up using the edge of the pick. So make sure that you're strumming straight up and down the strings."
