"Today in this segment of bar tools, I'm going to discuss the Boston Shaker. Now this is the most important tool for a bartender to have behind a high volume bar. There's a lot of different types of shakers, I'm going to make that distinction, but this is the type you're going to see behind an actual bar. Now it consists of three pieces. First is your mixing glass. You're actually going to fill your glass up with your ice and then add your ingredients to be able to eye it out, make sure you have the correct levels. You have your mixing tin, and then you have your fourteen ounce cheater tin. There's a lot of different ways to use this. I'm going to show you real quick. So you're going to start off by filling your glass with ice, just like so. From that point, you're going to take your alcohol. So let's say that we're using vodka. So one, two, three, four, five, six will give you an ounce and a half pour, which is usually your industry standard. From that point, you're going to add your modifying agent. We're going to use cranberry here. Now you wouldn't normally actually mix or shake a vodka cranberry, but in this case I'm just using it as an example. From that point you're going to take the ingredients, right, and you're going to take your mixing tin and place it over the top. Now you want to create a seal, so you make sure it's really nice and tight. A good seal will allow you to just hold the drink like that without the glass falling. You're going to shake. On an average for a martini you want to shake about four to six times, or ten to twelve times depending on if it's a really, if it's a thicker consistency of alcohol. From that point, you're going to just give it a little tap, and that'll allow it to break that seal. So you can take the tin off. Now the strain, you have a couple different options. You can either use a strainer, we're going to cover that in a different section, or you can take your cheater tin, place it into the glass like such, get your glassware ready, and just pour directly into your glassware. So those are a couple different uses of your tin. Make sure that this is something you have behind your bar at all times."
