"Next, put some Sap Green on your paper palette here and you're also going to need your palette knife. People always think that paintings are only involving painting with brushes. That is actually not the truth. Some of the best paintings are actually glorified finger paintings and also palette paintings. So in this situation what you want to do is basically put your palette knife on its side. See what I'm doing here? And tap on the side there to make sure you have a nice lined layer on the side. And then we're going to be able to go up onto our canvas with that and show you how to start on our trees. I want to start on the trees. We're going to take your palette knife with the paint down the side and use that to start drawing in the tree trunks. See that? Look at that nice, solid, very thin line. These trees are far in the distance. They're not going to be close. As you see yourself running out of paint, go back to get more. You have six or seven trees up here. It's going to take a little while to get them all in. Just keep going in here and filling them in and maybe you just put in trees that just feel right that you didn't even draw. Go with it. Don't stifle that type of process. That's the type of stuff you want to go with. That's the good stuff. The best art you'll ever create is not going to be based on any particular guidelines. It's listening to those synapses firing off in your brain. Just go down in here along the side and finish this until you have a nice bank of trees on which we will later add branches."
