The first petroleum powered motorcycle was designed and built by German inventors in 1885. There was a steam powered, two-wheeled vehicle that was demonstrated at fairs and circuses in 1867 in the eastern United States. Modern day motorcycles consist of a chassis, an engine, a transmission, wheels and tires, a brake system, suspension coils, and instruments to gauge speed, distance and other important variables. There are many types of motorcycles now, including pocket bikes, choppers, sport bikes, motocross bikes, mopeds, scooters, cruisers and touring motorcycles. In this free sports bike video series an experienced motorcyclist, Jared Cummings, will demonstrate the basics of motorcycle riding. Cummings will begin by introducing the safety gear and motorcycle parts. He'll then demonstrate how to properly turn on and off the motorcycle as well as how to stop and start. Later, Cummings will reveal how to begin inching forward on the bike by involving the clutch and gas. He'll then demonstrate several safety riding procedures, such as: turning, counter sitting, cornering, how to avoid objects, down shifting as well as how to drive over hazardous object in case of emergencies. Watch these sports bike videos and learn how to properly ride a motorcycle today.
"Alright, first we're going to talk about safety gear and equipment, you should be wearing when you're riding a motorcycle, or a sports bike. Alright, the first thing we have over here is our jackets. We're going to go ahead and we're using a Hicon Leather Jacket, it's got extra pads actually inside of the unit. It has an armor plate back here, along with an armor plate in the shoulders over here, back in the elbows on both sides. This one is for more Winter riding, especially here out in Arizona, where it gets real hot. This is definitely more of a Winter riding, or a racing one where you're going to go down to the track day. It has air vents where it does breath a little bit, but something more for Arizona weather, during the Summer, something that you'd still want protection with. But, it's a little bit more light, it still has the armored plating in the back, in the shoulder, and in the arms. But, it also has a mesh material, so it allows the air to go through it. It's not as protective as the leather materials, but it is still very protective if we were to crash. Another important thing over here is the gloves. You don't ever want to ride without these cause as soon as your hands go down on the ground, if you were to crash, it's going to tear them up pretty quick, so we have some padded gloves over here, with knuckle protection over here. Gloves are very important! You never want to ride without them. If you were to crash and you weren't to have gloves, it's just as your skin right on the asphalt, and that's going to tear up pretty quick, so we always, always, always want to ride with some sort of hand protection. The last part over here is a must, for me, is a helmet. You don't need one legally to ride in every state. Arizona, all you require is eye protection, so sun glasses or something like that. But, for me, a helmet, it's saves my life, if I were to go down. It's just, it's a must for me! I would never, never ride without one on the streets."
