If you discover that you or your child has eczema, it's really important to seek professional help for it because a dermatologist, for example, can tell you exactly how to treat it, prevent it, and just to keep a very good skin care regime. I know that, I laugh saying that I spend more time on my daughter's skin than I do myself, because we want to make sure that she stays eczema free. It's not fun to have eczema. It's very irritating. We go through many band-aids, especially on my daughter's fingers because of the itchiness. A dermatologist is a professional who deals with these things, skin disorders, and things like that, on a regular basis. They know exactly what your child needs, or what you need, to prevent and take care of your skin care. When my daughter has an extreme flare up we end up seeing the dermatologist, it's a pediatric one, and they're able to give us the right amount of medication, something that's safe for her skin. With steroids and cortisone creams, you're a little leery about putting that on your skin because it does have a thinning effect if you use it long term. So, the key is, to treat the flare up, use as minimal medication as possible, and just keep a great skin care regime so you don't have to use these medications. It's good to have them on hand though and also have professional help when you need it.
