"It's me again. And this time we're going to go over where you are the most vulnerable as a consumer. Scary. It is very scary, because if you don't know some of the terminologies, or some of the tricks that the sales person, sales man, I should say because they're not a consultant or a sales person. Will hit you with all these terminologies you might not understand and you will get a bad deal. So here we go. Example of what as a sales person will try to take advantage of a naive and somewhat unknowing customer. Larry: Hey how's it going man Customer: Good how are you doing? Larry: You called earlier and your name's Chance, right? And you were talking about getting into an alarm, right? Customer: Yes sir Larry: OK, well what kind of vehicle do you got? Customer: I have a 2003 BMW Larry: OK. You know, you said you wanted remote start and two way paging and all of that stuff. Customer: Yes please Larry: Well you know our advertised price five fifty for it. But with a BMW, there's all kinds of other things to contend with. You know you've got fiber optic wire, you've chip key bypass, transponder bypass. We have to dig into the BCM. We are going to have build relays for the flashing lights. We are going to have to do vacuum operated power door locks. We're going to have to set another actuator for that. We're going to have to do all these things. Customer: Slow down for a minute. I have no idea what you're saying Larry: Let me give you one second, but before I get you out you're probably looking at like a thousand bucks. That's cool, you can handle it, you've got a BMW, right? Customer: Yeah, about that. We'll see what we can do. Larry: OK so, what were you saying though again, I didn't hear that part. Customer: I don't know what you just said. Larry: Well, I mean, if you don't know all those things, you really don't know what I just explained to you? Customer: Not at all. Larry: Wow. OK, I understand it might be a little too technical for you, you know. Customer: Yeah Larry: But you can take my word for it. Just trust me, I'll help you out. Get your BMW all geared up. And you know it might, I'm just thinking around a thousand to above a thousand dollars, you know. Maybe. It is a BMW. It might even be more. It's just we have to really dig into it to see what's going on with the BCM module. The body, you know, all the little doodads in there, you know. Because that's a technologically advanced vehicle and it takes a lot more time. So, we're probably just going to have to leave an open ticket actually on retrospect. I think we're going to leave an open ticket on that. Customer: Alright, well Larry: What do you think? Customer: I'm not really feeling too comfortable with that. So Larry: You sure man? I mean, I think that we'd, you know, well you know we can work on your car. We worked on your dad's car and all your homeboys and buddies car. You know that we'll take care of you. And we're convenient. We've got time right now for you. We might not have time later on. Customer: You have to give me a minute to think about it. We'll work it out. Larry: Come on man. Come on, you know us man, we took care of your dad's car and your family member's car. Customer: I'll have to get back to you man. Thank you. Larry: Oh man, come on. And see what happened just there was, he had prior established trust. But he was really hungry for a sale. And he hit the customer with all these terminologies that he had no knowledge of. And now we're going to try to go about the correct way of doing it. Larry: Hey how's it going man? Customer: Hey how are you doing? Larry: I see you called earlier about getting into an alarm, right? Customer: Yeah, I'm looking into an alarm, but I really don't know a whole lot about the set-up and how everything goes down. I drive a BMW and I know all the electronics in it are really technical. So I'm just looking for someone that'll be straight up with me about it. Larry: OK, well you know you probably heard the terminology BCM-body control module. We're going to really, you know, that's, a lot of shops that you go to are going to tell you that they're going to tap into that and that's going to make it a little more difficult. But we have to tap into that module anyway to do the alarm. To do the flashing lights, the power door locks, so it's probably fancy term they just flashed at you. But, you know the price I quoted you at six hundred is going to be the price. The only thing extra that we have to build is a relay and that allows us to reverse the polarity from a positive trigger dome light, or flashing light. Or the door lock trigger to a negative polarity. So we'll convert positive to negative. And that's how that, does that kind of make sense to you to where the alarm can understand the signal? Because it not on, you know, an OEM BMW signal? And also you know there's a transponder, that little chip in your key, and what that allows us or allows the vehicle not to do is be stolen by a key that doesn't have the transponder. It's a little FM chip that allows in the tumbler to know and the ECM in your car to know that it's OK that it can be started up, and we have to a module to adapt the signal from that key into your vehicle, so that we can allow the remote start without a key, and allow you to drive the car away when it's remote started. But you still need the key though. You know, so it is safe. Customer: OK Larry: But that will cost a little more time probably take a little extra, you know, a little extra money, but you know that's within the six hundred dollar parameter that I explained to you. Customer: Alright Larry: So that's about the only crazy stuff there is involved in it. BCM and vacuum door locks. You have power door locks, just all through the body control module. The ECM is in your control module, so that's that man. Customer: Awesome thank you very much for explaining that. I feel a lot more comfortable now. Larry: Alright, well let's get done on your alarm then. Customer: Let's get it done. Larry: Yeah. And that's how you do that."
