"It's me again, Larry. And this time we're going to go over the best thing and the worst thing that's happened to a lot of service based industries. The Internet. The Internet has been kind of a mixed blessing for us in the twelve volt retail industry. Why? Well the pricing. The access to the consumer. The knowledge and all the different products. It's not really a worked out retail situation anymore. It's kind of like you have to go with the flow. You have to kind of walk through it half eye on that and half eye forward towards your consumer, because you just never know how things are going to work out. The Internet gives price flexibility, knowledge, but at the same time it will never provide the human component. The service, the support. And this is the situation we'll get into right now. Larry: Hey how's it going man? Customer: Hey how are you doing sir? Larry: I'm assuming you're trying to come in and put a system together. You have a really nice corvette outside. Customer: Yeah I was just looking at some stuff on the Internet but I wanted to come in here and like actually hear it from somebody like what I'm getting myself into. Larry: OK, well you know, we've got all kinds of gear. Can you tell me kind of some of the kind of gear that you were looking at. Customer: I need basically, the whole, everything, the whole set-up. I need subs, speakers, amps, head unit, everything. Larry: What brands were you looking at. Customer: I'm looking to stay uniform throughout the whole car. On the Internet they were doing bundle pricing. Giving me deals for sticking with the same and buying more product through them. So I'm kind of looking for something like that. And I was also wondering some of your prices compared to what I've seen. Larry: OK, well products exactly, what bundling were you looking at? Customer: Pioneer Larry: Pioneer? OK great. Well you know I'm assuming since you have a car like that. And you know it's open top. Probably want a TV with navigation, you know. So you can enjoy just riding and have that audio visual part. I don't know how much you saw it for on the Internet, but here the head unit is about eleven hundred bucks is what I can do you. And the speakers on the corvette, we're going to have to do a rewire. You know, they can't take care of the labor on the Internet. And I don't think you, yourself, would want to go through all that wiring on your Z06. I mean it's a '07 Z06 open top so. We can provide all these components for you. I'm going to go to the top of the line Pioneer component speakers for you, the amplifier, the head unit, the rewire, the dashed in trim kit. And this is the price that we're looking at. Of course they're not going to probably cover the price for you on the labor. But here's the number I came, OK, speakers, amp, etcetera. How does this price look to you right here? Customer: That's looking a little more expensive than I saw on the Internet. But with the service, I'm thinking it might be a better way to go. Larry: Well, hey OK, well then this is what I'm going to do for you. I appreciate you kind of compromising, because you know we need to make a living too. Customer: Yeah Larry: How's this look to you? Customer: That's looking pretty fair to me Larry: Even better right? Customer: Yeah Larry: That's because you tried to compromise with me and I'm a fair guy, you know, I want us to both be happy. And I'd love to work on your wonderful car, because I really like Z06s, you know, that's an awesome ride. So Customer: Well, I'm glad, I'm glad we worked this out sir. Thank you Larry: Well hey, let's just get set up Customer: Alright sir. And that's how you do that. Where the service component, the install part, the greeting, all of that kind of comes together with that. The customer feels comfortable and you as a sales person feels comfortable because you have an avid interest in what happens to the consumer's vehicle, how he feels and how everything is executed. You've got to care."
