"Push ups are a great way to utilize the entire body and build strength in the upper body, good functional strength. We are going to throw in these dumbbells to take up some pressure off the wrists. You can either have them supinated with your palms out or this way where you have got your hand shake position. As long as you have got that nice line of wrist, elbow, and shoulder engagement. Coming up into what we call plank or if you are on your knees make sure that weight is forward of the knee joint and again wrists right underneath the shoulders just like they would be if they were flat but this takes some pressure off the wrists by using those hand weights here. You have also seen bars, this is a little easier because you have less distance between the floor and the actual weight. Contract and release, leaving the head in a nice neutral position, contract and release. We don't push the hips out or let the hips fall but try to maintain that neutral posture and of course if you want to advance, curl up on the toes and contract and release and this will really allow you to focus in on working the arms but of course supporting with your core strength. Push ups there is no magic number. You are using your body weight, closed chain movement so you work to fatigue and progress from there."
