"Hi I'm Jeremy Blackwell, I'm here today to help you get started on your basement remodel project. When you're framing your basement by yourself, or if you've hired someone else to do it, one thing to think about is the spacing that you will use to space your studs. Code allows you to space your studs at 24 inches on center usually, if it's not a bearing wall. Here we've placed them at 16 inches on center just to make it more sturdy. With 24 inches on center you've got more of a chance to break a hole in that drywall and the wall won't be as strong, but here it's going to be nice and strong at 16 inches on center. Having builder's build it for you, sometimes they may try to get by with saving money on materials. This is one, one place where they might try to save some money on the materials. It, it's allowed to do 24 inches on center, but it builds a stronger wall if the stud spacing is closer together, closer to 16 inches on center. Things to keep in mind when framing your basement is to plan around the bearing wall. Your bearing wall is already in place and it's already holding up the rest of your home. You don't want to mess with the bearing wall if you don't have to. If you do decide to, to move around the bearing wall, or put a header or, or some, or some beam material inside that wall, you'll need to consult an engineer to make sure that everything is, is up to code and will hold up the rest of your house.
