Building a Photography Diffusion Panel: Measuring PVC Pipe

"In this clip we're going to determine length for our PVC pipe. I use these a lot for, for when I've done full length on people. So it needs to be a minimum of six feet. I actually prefer seven feet. It gives me a little bit of room for play. What I do is I just take a tape measure, measure these out seven feet, make a mark and then I find something that's got a straight edge on it that's flexible. I'm going to use this little piece of plastic, and what I do is I just wrap that around there and I line up the straight edges on the plastic and then I can do a straight line all the way around it and know that my line is straight. We will cut that later. On our horizontal parts of this we are going to do four feet. We're just going to take one of these other rods here and measure out forty eight inches, mark it, do the same thing with our little piece of foam. You can use just a white piece of paper for this, anything that will just give you a guide, and what you want to do is you just want to line up the top edges of that so it's nice and neat. If you're off a little bit in this measurement and the marking and the cutting, it's not a really big deal, but it's kind of nice to start off with as precise a cut as you can get. Ok we just flipped this piece of PVC around. We're just going to go ahead and measure the other horizontal part of it to forty eight inches, mark it, and then we're going to do the same thing as we did before. We're just going to line up this piece of straight edge here and we're just going to follow the line around. It gives us a real straight line to cut."
