"Once you've learned how to half cab 180 successfully on flat ground and you've got it really good and you feel confident, it may be time to bring it to some kind of a drop or gap or a set of stairs; which is the natural thing that you want to do once you've got a trick master. It feels really good sometimes to bring a trick to drop down something, because you get the feeling of the air time and also of the compression. So now that you've decided to bring it to a ledge, one thing that's going to change dramatically is the fact that now, you're going to have to half cab ollie in a specific position or a specific location. This is different from flat because, flat you can do it whenever it feels right to do it, but now that you've brought it to a spot you have specific location that you need to half cab at. One thing you're going to have to remember when you're half cabbing off something is that, while rolling in the fakie position up to it, you're going to have to hit the tail just before the edge of whatever you're skating. This is really important and it's just going to take a lot of practice and learn when to hit it. You don't want to end up hitting it too late and having it miss the ledge. Now that you're ready to bring it to the spot, you're also going to have to remember that you're going to have to have more air time. So this is going to have to make you have to adjust your setup accordingly. I suggest setting your feet up a little bit closer than you normally do. This will give you a chance to pop a little bit higher and to be able to hold the board for the extended amount of distance that you're now traveling to get down to the ground. Another thing you're going to have to remember as with anytime that you're skating something that you're dropping off, first you're going to want to have to be able to ollie comfortably off that object and second, you also going to want to be able to compress and take in the compact landing; into your knees and ankles. This way, it makes it a little bit safer for you to be able to just something higher and you know you're ready to skate that obstacle."
