"The castanets which we're going to talk about and demonstrate in this section are a wonderful percussion instrument. Very simple because they look actually like clam shells. And we think that's where they originated. In the ancient cultures of Greece, Rome and Egypt the dancers played something called crotalos or cruzmatas and they were made of shells and when they hit them together they got a very nice percussive sound."
