"A really good exercise to get your articulation working well is called the slur 2 tongue 2 exercise. It is a pretty basic exercise that I probably learned in my first months of playing the saxophone. Basically you are going to be playing a scale, the first two notes you are slurring and the next two you are tonguing. Slur 2, tongue 2, slur 2, tongue 2, pretty straightforward. We will just use the D Major scale because we just played that. It will be right on the tip of your memory. We will go ahead and start up the metronome and let's turn it down to about 88, slur 2, tongue 2, slur 2 tongue 2, just keep it at that speed. You should be able to play it to my articulation and you should be able to hear clearly. Slur 2, tongue 2. As you move up in speed you are going to get your articulation working really well, get your tongue working really fast which is really important in playing all different kinds of tunes you are really going to have to move fast. Gradually turn your metronome up and practice that through a couple different scales and you should practice it through all your scales to really get your articulation working so move up in intervals however you feel comfortable and take it from there."
