"Hi! I'm Dr. Joshua Vogel with Carolina OB-GYN, a division of Women and Health Associates and I'm going to be talking today about how to stop recurring yeast infections. Yeast infections are obviously extremely common complaint and happen to a lot of women but for some women it happens with great frequency, recurring as much as every month and sometimes even more. And this can be an extremely frustrating problem. Several things that you need to examine with your doctor, the possibility of an yeast infection that is resistant to the typical standard commonly used treatments. These treatments do work for most infections but occasionally you may have one that is not amenable to the typical ones. A often effective treatment for that is something called boric acid capsules. These are not easy to obtain and often need to be compounded by a local pharmacy. Other issues that need to be examined could be your pelvic hygiene. It is very easy to damage the vaginal and pelvic tissues and one needs to be very careful and sensitive about how you wash. It is important to not use anything other than your hands to scrub the area and definitely a consideration of unscented sensitive skin soaps is in order. Also, the standard use of white cotton underwear, avoiding thongs or other materials can be very helpful. Also, important to examine your laundry detergent. Laundry detergents that are as well unscented for sensitive skin are preferable. It's also important to make sure that you're taking good care of the skin, keeping it healthy and well lubricated. This has been a discussion today of how to prevent recurring yeast infections"
