"Hello, I'm Dr. Miguel Rodriguez, I'm a Gastroenterologist with Miami Gastroenterology Consultants in Miami, Florida. What kind of things- many patients ask me, what kind of things they are not supposed to eat when they have acid reflux. I always emphasize the portion control, having the smaller meals rather than large meals. I also emphasize avoiding spicy foods, tomato sauce or foods that have tomato sauce, cheeses, red wine is a big one. Chewing gum is a factor and it's mostly because of the amount of air that people tend to swallow, but at the same time we should try to avoid fried foods, because they would take- or oily foods, because they will take longer time to digest, and again increase the chances of exposing the lower part of the esophagus to acid. Other meals will be at the discretion of the patient."
