"Hello, I'm Dr. Miguel Rodriguez. I'm a Gastroenterologist with Miami Gastroenterology Consultants in Miami, Florida. In cases of very severe acid reflux or in cases of which the presence of hiatal hernia is detected and by hiatal hernia is when the stomach is pushed up into the chest cavity. It is possible to do a surgery that will restore the stomach to its normal location in the abdomen and at the same time close the hiatus or orifice in which the stomach pushes into the chest. This operation is called a Fundoplication can now be accomplished laparoscopically an in patients who are carefully selected, it will be an operation or a remedy that will decrease or eliminate the acid reflux completely."
